What is Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)?

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based treatment, meaning that it has been proven by research to be effective for a wide range of disorders.  CBT is a short-term, goal-oriented intervention that takes a proactive and practical approach to problem-solving. Rather than an in-depth focus on past experience, CBT emphasizes the here and now and aims to teach the client to become their own therapist. CBT is centered on how your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect your feelings and behaviors.  By learning skills to identify and change unhelpful thought and behavioral patterns, clients will achieve their goals and observe noticeable improvements in their mental and emotional state in a short time.
